Happy Grand Hump Day

It's Wednesday again, Bingo day for the Grands and delivery day for me at the club. Also hoped for a big day for the Texas Rangers..oh well, tomorrow is another day on that front. Got home and although the Grand father loves sports he hadn't realized the big game was on and then couldn't find the right channel on TV. Got him settled in  for some baseball action, found out the Grand mothers had gone shopping and headed to the kitchen to start dinner. The hardest part about cooking dinner for the family is deciding what to cook.

Decided on beef fajitas and got busy. Mom got home and pitched in setting the table after she and Mama showed off their purchases. Had to show everyone how to make a fajita. Offered Mama a flour tortilla and she replied "I guess I'll try to eat one"! Rolled them up and went to town, everyone seemed to enjoy their dinner and of course we had to have dessert. All 4 Grands are diabetics, but require dessert after both lunch and dinner. Sat and talked awhile over sock it to me cake and then the real fun began.

Cleaned up the kitchen and then began preparations for the Red Hats luncheon @ our home tomorrow beginning at 11:30. I fear I'll never get 8 hours sleep again. Dusted and ran the vacuum while mom worked on her new treat for lunch. A slice of thin ham spread with soft cheese then rolled around a long pretzel, which is really weird. However Mama's dish for tomorrows lunch is sauerkraut salad so just when I thought it couldn't get any weirder it did!!

I will be like the kid at lunch, but they are a great group of little old ladies who seem to like me even if I do run a bar (and smoke). I don't smoke around the Mama though. I told her I would quit if she would move here from Amarillo and I haven't done it yet...don't think I can as long as I work @ the club. 56 years old and hiding the fact that I smoke from my Mama, how embarrassing is that?

Everyone except Lee and I finally hit the hay about 10:30, so I finished up my chores and waited on him to finish his. Lee gave up his music room at our old house and has been very patient with all the remodeling and projects that came 1st. Finally this week the work changing the 2 car garage into his music studio has gotten to the point he started unpacking and arranging his things...4 months since the move mind you.

How many husbands would sacrifice the peace and tranquility of all the kids finally leaving home to move in his wife's parents and grand parents, not many I reckon....I am a very lucky woman. In addition to having all the Grand parents I also have a Grand husband, Lee you are the bestest!! He actually went on line and looked up senior citizens jokes to tell them at dinner tonight, had them all rolling on the floor...not really but they did love the jokes and it would have taken forever to get them all up if they had..

When he finally came in from his studio we watched Survivor. I wanted to be on that show a few years back, but realize now I'm just not up to it. It's 3:30 am and I've been out on the patio having my bed time smoke. Guess I better get in and go to bed so I'll be up and at'em for Red Hats tomorrow. We're going to play a game called LRC, checked it out last night and it is fun. Very little thought required, just what I need.

Say a little prayer for our Grand family and sweet dreams to yours!!

Grand total of 3 days!!

Such a busy weekend, didn't have time to blog. Woke up Friday and made Eggs Benedict for lunch then the physical therapists came to see the great grands the afternoon. Went to the bank to get change for the club, then to Kroger for their big meat sale. Made dinner, took a nap and then off to work

Saturday Mama finally got over being mad at me and life was back to normal. Great grandfather won't answer the phone, so he missed the call telling him that poker with the seniors was moved to noon and by the time I got up and checked the machine he had missed his game. Served leftovers for lunch and then Lee and I went to El Fenix (his favorite restaurant) for an early dinner. Came home, took a nap and then off to work again.

Got up early Sunday, after only 6 hours sleep, and made a giant roasting pan of soup to take to the club so they would have something to eat during the game. Took the soup to drop off @ 1:00 and presided over a scheduled staff meeting. Got home just in time to see the Cowboys loose their game...oh well!! Spent the rest of the day getting the house ready for the Red Hats luncheon that will be here on Thursday Did some things in Mama's room, cleaned the patio and hung some more pictures in the house. Worked 'till 11:oopm and then died in my chair.

Up this morning and found out the physical therapists was coming again. Then a supervisor came to reevaluate both greats and the grandfather. She told the Great grandfather he is not making any progress since he won't do the work except when they are her. Recertified him for 1 more month with threats to discontinue service unless he gets in gear. She told him at the rate he is going he will become a burden to everyone, won't be able to get our of bed by himself, or go to the bathroom alone. His leg will rot off. I sure hope he takes her talk to heart or he will end up in a nursing home. I told all the grands before we moved that at the point they couldn't wipe their own bottom or change their own diapers that we would have no choice but to place them somewhere else....and I wasn't kidding!! I have ordered a new exercise machine that work by vibrating, hope he will use it and that it actually does what they say it will, I'll let you know.

Took the female grands with me to run errands this afternoon and then Lee and I went to Pappadeaux for date night. When we came home I fell asleep in my chair for 2 hours. Taking care of 4 grands is rewarding, but alot of work. It's now 4:00 am and I'm finally ready to call it a day....good night!!

Not so Grand today

All the Grands were gone to the senior center playing bingo when I got up. My youngest daughter Sarah was coming for lunch so I got busy and made a stir-fry. She got here just before they got home. Mama went to her room and we were nearly through eating by the time she made it to the table. Finished up and got the dishes done when I heard Mama griping at the Grandfather for teasing her about shopping. He had said something about how she always returns everything she buys, which by the way is TRUE !! I guess she got her feelings hurt. She stomped off to her room ( as much as a 92 year old with a hip replacement can stomp). I followed her in and asked her what was wrong. She told me that nobody wanted her living here and then proceeded to repeat her comlaints from yesterdays blog. Man was she venting !! I called her on her bullshit and of course then she directed her anger at me. Told me she didn't like the way I had spoken to Sarah when I teased her about reading a brochure I had been looking at, considering buying an exercise machine. I told her Sarah knew I was teasing her, but Mama said her mother had "never spoken to her like that". I reminded her that she sure talks like that to her daughter and that Mom had been upset for 2 days now since she was being hateful and mean and taking it out on her.

She then complained once again about the lack of storage she has in her 2 rooms. My husband Lee had brought her another storage cabinet in the house yesterday (that she had been wanting for 2 weeks for) but it was still sitting in the hall because she just "didn't know where to put it" She then accused me of trying to control everyone. I told her between working and and taking care of all the things I do at home she had gone too far, she had hurt my feelings and I had to leave the room.

Mama decided to take a walk and just left withot saying anything to anyone. She stayed gone awhile and we started to worry she would go and fall down, hurt herself and it would be my fault for upsetting her. I had to leave for work, but looked for her first. There she was walking down the alley, called Mom and let her know Mama was OK and I went on to work. Talked to mom a little later and she said Mama had called her into her room, told her to sit down so she could talk to her. Mama said she just had to go walk and think. She asked Mom if she was upset and Mom said "yes, cause you've been mean, taking your bad mood out on me for 2 days".

Lee took the storage cabinet in and set it up. Of course later her had to go move it because it was not in the right place.....saw that one coming! When he went in to move it she told him he " always picked the most inoppertune times to do things"...oh well we tried.

We have all worked together to create this spoiled little old lady. Guess we're getting what we deserve! The Grandfather said it was his fault since whenever she thows her little fits he always apoligizes and gives her her way. I think there's a new day coming in their relationship.

We all had dinner together and the Grandfather actually stayed in the kitchen and helped do dishes....yup things are a changing. She's still mad at me and went to her room after dinner, didn't see her again tonight.

I sat down in my chair after dinner and fell asleep, I was exhaused after cooking 2 meals and working at the club today. Had a 2 hour nap...it was good! Went to Walmart with Lee @ 1:00 am and did the grocery shopping so I don't have to do it tomorrow.

Oh well tomorrow is another day and I can't wait to see what it may bring.

Another Grand day!!

Just didn't have the energy to write last night. Had to get up really early to be a witness on a phone hearing by Texas workforce for the hotel where the club is. Couple of months ago had to call the owners of the hotel in California because the girl on the front desk was DRUNK....not just drinking. She got fired, filed for unemployment, got denied, appealed and hence my need to testify. Got up after 6 hours sleep and then she didn't bother to call them so she lost by default, lack of sleep on my part for no reason!

Since I was up I got busy...did payroll, updated reports on the computer, paid bills, and balanced 3 checkbooks. Laid down for a nap but got woke up by a phone call from the hotel manager again. Gave up, got up an went to the Texas State Fair with my hubby Lee for "date night".

Mondays are our date night since it's out only night off together. Doesn't mean we can't do stuff with other people, we just both have to do it. Sometimes it's just out to eat and then home to snuggle on the couch and watch TV or take a dip in the pool. I really look forward to date night.

So by the time we ate our way through the fair and got home after not enough sleep I was too pooped to write.

Got plenty of sleep last night though and didn't get up until 11:30. Since my baby sister is still visiting she was making lunch and doing alot of the stuff I do...made me feel like I was on vacation. Had planned to go to Sam's for the club, do some banking and other stuff but since it was my sisters last day here I decided to play hooky and hang with the girls!

Had a great day...dropped the great grandfather off to play Texas hold em with the seniors and then went shopping with my sister, mother and grandmother and still got all my Tuesday work done. (I just couldn't seem to blow off the work stuff) We went to a thrift store and made a donation, bought a few things there and then hit Sears @ the mall. Called mall security on a homeless guy who got mad 'cause we wouldn't give him any money. When we got home I told my husband he's got to start getting up earlier and stop me from shopping with them, I always spend the most money...LOL.

Tuesdays are pizza night for us. We all go to Pizza Inn and often other friends and family join us there. Tonight there were 8 of us and we had FUN!!! Ate too much and laughed alot.

Our dad was a big jokester and we seem to be carrying on his tradition, especially my brother and myself. Now the "great", Mama, has joined in and you just never know whats going to happen. We need to separate her and my husband Lee at the dinner table since they just feed off each others antedotes and pranks, but what would be the fun in that?

Got home from dinner and Mama came in mad because 1) her husband touched her in the car..2) she almost tripped walking in the door (that jam has been there 2 months)...3) she ran into the end table by the couch cause she couldn't see it (forgot where the light switch was) ...4) her closet isn't big enough and she doesn't have enough places to put her "crap". When we bought the house she decided she would rather have her own bathroom instead of a second closet. We spent about $10,000.00 changing the closet into a bathroom....I guess when your 92 you deserve a good bitch every now and then, but she used hers up tonight for the next 4 weeks as far as I am concerned.

Lees @ work doing Karaoke tonight and everyone else is tucked in bed.. Since we moved in together I can't smoke in the house anymore, which I hope will help me quit...but I'm out on the patio smoking and blogging and listening to the crickets.

Life is good with the "Grands" and tomorrow is another day..goodnight.:)

In may my husband and I bought a new home and moved in my parents and grandparents. Now we have 3 generations living in one place. My husband Lee (53), myself (56), my mother Lois (73) and stepfather Larry(80), grandmother Opal (92) and step grandfather Bob (78) all live together. All my friends keep telling me we should be a reality show and that I needed to start a blog, so I started this blog.

Lee and I moved in May 20th, parents on May 24 and after building an additional bathroom for Opal (Mama) the Greats moved in on July 1. We had a giant garage sale in July also. It was the busiest, hottest summer of my life.

I have managed a nightclub for the last 13 years and my husband's DJ company provides the entertainment there. Everyone else is retired. So I pretty much have 2 jobs, the club and taking care of the Grands.

Larry, the Grand has early onset dementia, Bob the Great has severe Glaucoma with very limited vision and a bad leg. Opal the Great Mama broke her hip in February. She told the Dr.'s she refused to spend her life in a wheelchair and whatever therapy they give her to do she does double and is doing wonderful. I'll be sitting at my desk and see a flash of color fly behind me and realize it's her doing something !! Fortunately my mother is in pretty good health and is able to take on alot of responsibility.

My 1st purchase after moving was to buy a dining table large enough for us all to sit and have dinner together. I really want this to be a happy time for everyone. I keep telling them we are "The Happy Family". I suggested we all change our last name to Happy, but nobody is going for it..LOL

We are just one big happy family....most days!!

I guess one of the funniest things so far was the morning I woke up to my mother yelling. I came running into the kitchen to find the Grandfathers getting ready to throw down. The Great had taken the sports page to his room and the Grand was mad about it and was ready to rumble. The Great said "bring it on".  I of course had to intervene. I suggested that if someone threw a punch all that would happen is they both would fall down and break a hip. If this happened and they ended up in the hospital I would not have time to visit them, but would make sure they were in the same room @ the hospital. After a moments thought they both went to their rooms. Then I had to have a sit down with each of them to suggest how they might have handled it better...I have become my Grands parent....life has flipped.

These last few months have been some of the happiest of my life. I am so fortunate to still have my mom and grandmother. Additionally the fact that we get along so great is a blessing. Don't get me wrong we've had our moments but our life is good!

Getting ready to have a good time watching the Cowboys in the family room and the Rangers in the parents living room. Some additional family and friends coming over. Gonna make a nacho bar and just turn this into a fun day for everyone (I hope).
